Well actually is not a Police vehicle...Its a Military Police vehicle. Differences start from the Registration number as a non Police vehicle has normal merchandise registration number. 2nd it has no signs in the door or the hood and on the hood rights Military Police

What function does the Military Police have in Cyprus? Is it a gendarmerie like France, or deal only with the military like the US? Or something in-between like Holland, where the Marechaussee provides the border guards?

Military police are responsible for military personal within a military garrison whereas SBA Police are responsible for Sovereign Base Areas within Cyprus. The vehicles of the SBA Police and Military Police are the same the only difference being the name and logos on the vehicles. This is a 4x4 off road patrol vehicle also good on road. The white apparatus you can see on top of the car is actually a set of projector lights operated electrically via remote which can extend upwards and project a great amount of light into dark surroundings mainly used in illegal immigrant operations or accident scenes with low light visibility.

To clarify Michael, the Sovereign Base Areas (SBAs) are two areas of the island retained under British sovereignty on Cyprus's independence in 1960. Whilst these areas host British military bases, they also cover a considerable amount of civilian areas (look at the Wikipedia page for clarification). Therefore, the Military Police exercise jurisdiction over British military personnel in Cyprus, whereas the SBA Police are the civilian Police force within the Sovereign Base Areas, but have no jurisdiction in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.
