I'm surprised to see these motorcycle officers riding the bikes with out any protective clothing. I think only a shirt can't protect them when they fall off their bike. In the Netherlands you don't see any motorcycle cop with out high visible protective clothing. I'm wondering if this is common in France, because I saw it also with the French Gendarmes in the Tour de France.
In France it is not uncommon to see, between May and October, police motorcyclists and the gendarmerie wearing a shirt or a polo. In French it's called "summer dress". Most of these bikers are, however, a light bulletproof vest under their clothing.
French name of the motorcyclist degree is "sous-brigadier de police".
